News - New titles for October have arrived!  They are available to order now on OrderPro online and our online bookstores.  New titles are a great reason to book and rebook hostesses and make contact with past customers.  The October Catalog supplements are mailable with only one stamp!  Makes a great mailer to send out to those contacts you have with a little post it saying “Earn an extra $50 in Free books with our October Special! Choose from these dates ___, ____, ____ and call me to reserve yours today 555-1212.”  A little personalized note always helps people know you remember them, so ask about their kids or their new puppy or something that you remember about meeting them.

Make sure to invite them to join you in this business.  You never know who needs what you have to offer, until you offer it J  Share the great thing you’ve found in UBAH.

Have a wonderful weekend!

E-pplause to Lisa Luttrell on her first big library sale over $1000!  Congratulations Lisa!

Motivation:

Little by little, one travels far.           J.R.R. Tolkien

Wow this really applies to us!  Think of where you are now in your business and think where you’d like to travel with your business.  Where you’d like your business to take you!   Consistently working 4-6 events a month (little by little) will cause your business to grow and grow – little by little - you’ll be amazed at how far you’ll go!

News:

The Holiday Title flyers are so cool!  The new titles are super of course, and I also love the new layout of the flyers.  The are mailable with one fold and one stamp.  A great little mailout to previous hostesses, great customers and potential hostesses/Consultants.

Have a super weekend!

Cathy

E-pplause to Ernie and Lucinda Terry for posting their first sales of their incentive period!

E-pplause to Erica Bisel for completing a $1700+ bookfair long distance to re-start her business!

~ If you learn from your own mistakes you are smart, if you learn from the mistakes of others, you are wise!

(in other words – learn from your uplines mistakes by taking a peek at those training pages – we found some things that really work nicely – after we found some that didn’t work so nicely J www.FindTheDuck.com/ConsultantTraining.html and http://www.usborneusa.com/training/index.htm

~ When it looks like you’ve exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you probably haven’t.

~ Never let a challenge become an excuse.

I use these quotes today because the path to success has it’s share of bumps, detours and traffic tie ups.

We just have to deal with all those unexpecteds with a positive, yes I can attitude. When business is great, it’s easy to be upbeat and look to the future!  That is awesome!  And something to be grateful for.

When you reach a challenging spot, remember to keep that eye on the future of your business.  The goal is still there in the distance, just remember you may need to take an alternate route.  And always feel welcome to call me for pointers on finding an alternate route J.

AWESOME HOSTESS SWEEPSTAKES!!!

This has never been done before in the history of UBAH – the home office is putting all hostesses with $450+ in show sales from now through Dec. in a drawing for a fabulous Carribean Cruise for two!!

Qualifying Hostesses not winning the cruise will be entered to win several shopping sprees up to $500!  These will mostly likely be for gift cards or gift checks that can be spent at any location!  There will also be winners of several UBAH gift certificates!  What an awesome incentive to offer all your hostesses – in addition to tons of free books for holiday/birthday gifts and their own kids!

Make those calls today - and offer this outstanding opportunity for hosting to all your past hostesses and best customers.  They will be excited!

E-pplause to Patti McClimans for promoting to Supervisor!!    Patti has been a superb leader for her growing team for several months and now it’s official!

Patti decided this spring that she wanted to promote and set out to reach that goal, Congratulations Patti on an awesome job!  And congratulations to your central group for their terrific sales and team growth!

Epplause to  Lynn Pitts and Lisa Kocks for reaching Bronze!  Way to go Lisa and Lynn!   Lisa and Lynn are members of Patti’s Central group J

E-pplause to all active members of Team Ambition for being # 7 in Central Group Sales in the Nation for October 2004!!  Your sales helped earn that great ranking!

Motivation:

Interdependent people combine their own efforts with the efforts of others to achieve their greatest success.

~~ Stephen Covey, author The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

Interdependent People – people helping and sharing and combining their efforts - is what network marketing is all about.  The greatest success stories in UBAH are those of people who share this business opportunity with others, share their knowledge and experience, recognize strengths and achievements of their team members and work together to build a successful and profitable business.

News:

Let’s Party  is an awesome book about our business model written by Jan Ruhe – an international network marketing trainer and self made millionaire with Discovery Toys.  I highly recommend this book and it’s now available on our Supply Order pages in OPOL for a fraction of the retail price!

Hope you all had a Happy and Safe Halloween!

November 9, 2004

Epplause to the following Consultants who’ve already posted sales this month:

Suzette Henriksen, Heather Huetter, Janet Miller, Kathleen Minet, Christy Muffley, Amy Murray, Kelly Richardson, Jennifer Spokely, Lucinda and Ernie Terry, Cheryl Webb

See how long this list gets by the end of the month!

What a great month to offer Usborne Books! You have the *BEST* gifts anyone can buy a kid!  Educational and fun Usborne Books make the perfect gift for kids who already love to read – and those who really need a cool book to get them to love reading. J  How many people would love to be able to get awesome Holiday gifts for free!?    You can offer them that – help them know that you’ll make it easy for them.

Hostesses just need to do three things… 1) overinvite with 30-40 people on their guest list

                                                            2) get outside orders from friends and neighbors who can’t come (including e-shows if you have the website)

3) call all the people on their guest list the day before their show to remind them and tell them to wear RED for an extra raffle ticket and be excited about the books in their calls!

What about food you ask?  KISS – Keep it simple sweetie. Tell her no one who prepares a great buffet ever gets people to their show – it’s the honest truth!  If they are too busy worrying about entertaining and food, they aren’t focused on their guests and don’t make their reminder calls.  Keep the focus on the books and the fun with friends, food is best kept a secondary thing.  (Suggest M&M’s and a bag of chips with a two liter of soda – tell them (with a smile) to trust you on this)

Remember to send out a holiday gift email to all your past customers and hostesses too – you can let them know we have new Holiday titles and add links to your website (if you have one) plus some book cover graphics to add color and excitement.  This little reminder of what you have to offer can help them immensely with their holiday shopping!

Motivation:

People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves they have the first secret of success.

          ~ Norman Vincent Peale

Booking Letter:

Attached is a booking letter used by Jan Ruhe – and published in her great book MLM Nuts and Bolts (and I think in her newest book, Let’s Party too).  This letter is designed to be sent out so it arrives between Christmas and New Year’s. The point of this letter is to help you book shows for the new year and thank your past customers for their business in 2004.  Plus it gets people thinking about joining your group as a Consultant.  The new year is a great time to help others start their new business with UBAH!  Let me know if you have questions on using this letter.  And feel free to tweak it and make it your own.

Happy November!

Cathy

November 17, 2004

E-pplause to Heather Huetter for getting two great library sales at her first two library appointments!  Keep at it Heather!

E-pplause to Erika Bisel for closing out her first consignment inventory – with grace and patience!

E-pplause to Kathleen Minet for having over $1000 in net sales already for November!  Keep sharing those books Kathleen!

Holiday Gift Tip: Barter

You have a wonderful way to get great gifts for kids on your list as an UBAH rep – and you can share that benefit with reps for other companies by bartering for their products with your books.  Essentially you are then getting their products at a discount!  This is beneficial for both you and the other reps too.   Swap catalogs with someone who sells food items, housewares, toys, jewelry etc. and see where you can go with this.   Let me know if you have questions.

News:

We are pleased to announce that we have introduced page spreads (to take a look inside the books) to the consultant web sites.  We got the spreads from Usborne and this will be an ongoing process.  Some titles have more than one spread for a book.  We have approximately 500 spreads so many titles do not have a spread but we also show spreads from other books in the same series.  The spread images are named by the isbn and Usborne's isbns are different from ours so it was a very time consuming process to get them renamed with our isbn and there could be errors.  If you find one, just let us know.

Motivation:

Abundance is from activity.

Turkish proverb

Abundance with UBAH results when you have book events going on.  Keep balanced with family life, but try to always keep a consistent goal of 4-6 events a month – if you are interested in building your business - and your business will continue to grow and prosper.

Recommendation:

after a Supervisor friend posted the question below, I responded and then decided maybe I should share this information with everyone who may not know about our great OPOL tools….

I had a request from a consultant as to what types of databases we all use to keep in touch with our customers. Not being that familiar

with In Touch, is this an application that we can use In Touch for?

Serena

Serena,

InTouch is terrific!  As is the OPOL Contact Manager.

InTouch is strictly email related – so you can have a mailing list for hostesses, one for customers, one for booth contacts, one for recruit leads, one for your Central Group, One for New Consultant Training, whatever you need.  It is a great tool, because with one email you can broadcast the message to every single person within a specific mailing list.

It has such huge potential to make your life communicating with customers, downline – any contacts who you need to touch base with periodically – a really easy task.  I urge everyone to give it a try, it really is an incredible tool that should simplify your life.  There is a bit of learning curve in learning how to use it, but it is well worth spending a little time on.  And hey, we have that nice Dec. business slow down coming up when you may have a bit of free time to play around and get comfortable with this.

Contact Manager is a great tool as well for entering all the contact info you get on booth drawing slips, customer surveys at shows, librarian’s/schools etc.

Hope this little essay is helpful J

E-pplause to Patti McCliman’s Central Group for having $3,425.83 in group sales for November and almost $2000 so far in Dec.!  That is awesome!

I look for super achievement in Patti’s group in January too!  (and beyond)

E-pplause to Lucinda and Ernie Terry for reaching Silver this month!

E-pplause to Liz Conti for reaching Gold this month!

E-pplause to Lisa Kocks for reaching Silver this month!

Congrats to all of you who are out there sharing these wonderful books this season!  You’re spreading the good of reading and learning.  Be proud of what you do!

Tips:

As you plan for January, you may want to use the attached booking letter to help fill your calendar and help share the business with those who are looking to start something new in 2005.  The ideal time to send this letter is to mail it so it arrives at the recipient’s mail box Dec. 28 or 29.  Then follow up with phone calls after Jan. 2.  The phone call follow up is *very* important!   This letter is modified slightly from the one used by Jan Ruhe – one of my favorite experts in our industry.  People who use it, and follow up with a positive call (expecting a booking date when you call) often fill their calendars for months!  I will mail my letters along with a new title flyer and a copy of the recruiting special for January.  (This will be in the online newsletter a few days before you want to mail out your letters.)  Copy the letter double sided.

Tweak this booking letter to your benefit.  Only want to include Jan./Feb. dates to fill your calendar there first? Do that.  Adjust the dates and times to fit your family’s schedule.  Make it work for you!

Not sure what to say when you make those follow up calls?

Smile!  Say who you are and tell them you’re following up to your holiday letter and are excited to share the newest titles with her and her friends right away.  Offer your first two available dates and work from there.  Before you call, get in the frame of mind where you are confident in the wonderful opportunity you are offering them!  Think of all the benefits they will receive when hosting a show with you 1) awesome free books that their kids will love reading and that they will learn so much from 2) your expertise in helping them and their guests select the best books for their kids needs and interests 3) a fun time with friends in a relaxing atmosphere where they can visit and learn more about education at home at the same time.

You are doing them a great service by offering to do a workshop for them!  Really know that, and your attitude of confidence and professionalism will show in your voice and aid you in booking your events.

Have left over catalogs for Fall 2005?

Hang on to them.  I will sending news in the next e-pplause about what to do with those catalogs to help promote your business.  Keep them handy!

Motivation:

"For things to improve, you must improve. For things to get better, you must get better."

Jim Rohn

As we wind down 2004 and look to 2005 many of us will make resolutions for the new year.  Remember too that setting goals for your business is an important exercise in determining where you’re headed with UBAH next year.  Plot your map for success by writing down and posting your goals in a prominent place.  How do you want to improve at your business?  Any new markets you’d like to explore, or new skills you’d like to gain?  Have goals for income, promoting to Supervisor or awards to earn?  I’ll be sending around a goal sheet for the new year in one of the next E-pplause emails, so watch for it.

NEWS:

I forgot to mention this annual promotion for our group!  For several years now, I have offered a Convention Cash promotion and I will do so this year as well.  Retroactive from October 2004 through May 2005 for every $1000 you have in net sales, I will credit you $10 to a Convention Cash account.  When Convention arrives, I will present you with the Convention Cash at our group meeting at Convention 2005 in June.  Plan to be there!  It is the most awesome training event you can attend, you’ll receive free new fall 2005 titles when you attend, you’ll have soooo much fun with Consultants from around the country and you’ll meet the awesome HO staff, plus you’ll probably meet Peter Usborne and another staff member from the Usborne England offices.  And every penny of the cost is tax deductible!!  I cannot recommend it highly enough!

See you in Tulsa in June! J

Cathy

Hello team!

E-pplause to these high sellers for Dec.

            Liz Conti                                  $1551+   Fantastic Liz!

            Tysh Roberts                            $690+     Terrific Tysh!

            Jennifer VanHoorebeck           $645+     Super Jennifer!

Patti McClimans                       $630+     Way to Go Patti!

Kathleen Minet                        $559+   Great Job Kathleen!

            Lisa Luttrell                             $534+     Wahoo Lisa!

Business Tips

Are you getting those booking letters ready?  You could even email them if you like!

Other business related activities that you can work on a bit during some slower days this Holiday Season…

  • getting your call list ready for those follow up calls to the booking letter J,  Book as close in as you can and your year will be off to an awesome start – bookings come from bookings!
  • reviewing your list of potential Consultants – the new year is a very popular time for people who are giving thought to starting a business, give them a call or email to share the great specials you can offer them to help them get started in 2005!
  • Oooo, the taxes, gather your receipts, mileage log and other records to make the process run more smoothly.  If you have been posting your orders to the expense manager in OPOL, you may be glad to know that that feature generates great reports for tax time.  Try it out and let me know if you have questions.

Motivation

What’s in your BAG?

Appreciate life.

Denis Waitely talks about blessings, accomplishments and goals. He talks about having a "BAG" and that bag stands for blessings, accomplishments and goals.

When you are sharing your bag with others, have everyone dump out of their bag, their blessings, accomplishments and goals.

He says when he dumps out his bag, he is happy with what he sees, are you?

GREAT visual. Just great!

This is an ideal time of year to take inventory of those blessings, accomplishments and goals.  Celebrate the blessings and accomplishments and re-evaluate your goals and put your new ones for 2005 in writing, so you can add them to your accomplishments next year! J

One of my great blessings is having such a super team of Consultants to work with!  Thanks for all your hard work making this a great year for our group!

News

From our Pres. And CEO Randall White regarding our out of stock list – this is a little long, but will give you some perspective on the situation…

Many of you are wondering why we have so many books OS/OP during our best selling season. Basically, this is how it works. We make a best guess estimate on how many books to order. If it is a new title with no previous history it is difficult, however, if it is a reprint of an existing title we have sales history to help. An example of a new title was Luxury Touch Feely Fairies with a price of $15.95. Conventional wisdom was that was on the high side for a board book. We ordered 15,000 but we only received 6,000. We introduced the title in the Fall flyer and withheld it from the retail stores. (from Cathy – that is a *huge* vote of confidence in our home business division!) Well, you know the story, it was a huge hit. We already had 10,000 more on order and have since increased the order to 25,000 but the delivery date is in March. The main issue now is not the OS but rather the OP. Today we have under 10 books OS that are good sellers, On the Moon, etc. The list is long because of the OP. These are books that we want to sell the last of our existing stock because we either have a revision or it is no longer going to be offered because of low sales. If we do not sell our last bit of inventory we have 100-400 of a title that is no longer in the catalog and we would soon have a warehouse full of odds and ends.* I realize this is an imposition to you toward the end of a catalog season, however, our new catalog is now available and the OP list will go away for awhile. On a positive note, we have around 7 million books in our warehouse ready for a home.
I truly apologize for the inconvenience this situation causes for our field sales force, but I hope you understand why it is necessary. We constantly review our procedures to search for a better method that meet our needs while also working in your best interests. We have a very exciting new title list  and also an exciting new promotion program that we will launch in January. Thanks for your understanding and support.

    Randall

E-pplause will take a break for the Holidays.  Our next e-pplause will contain a 2004 accomplishments/ 2005 goals worksheet for you as well as the “what to do with those old catalogs” idea page.

Happy Holidays to you and your families!

Cathy
